For 30 years, the Virginia International Tattoo has captivated an audience of more than 1,000,000 with a spectacular and inspirational display of music, military precision and pageantry.

The first-ever military Tattoo in the United States was ordered by Virginian George Washington. Washington famously believed that "discipline is the soul of an Army." He relied on the evening "Tattoo" to help establish discipline and ensure that soldiers returned to their quarters every night as part of an official roll call and evening ceremony. The tradition was lost over the following decades, but then in 1997, the Virginia International Tattoo was established.

Virginia International Tattoo is now the proud standard-bearer of the Tattoo tradition in the United States. Our Tattoo includes aspects of General Washington's original military ceremonies as well as modern concert aesthetics, but it is so much more. It is an experience that brings out the very best in people.
