2026 Fall Brochure Letter

Dear Festival Friend,

When I think how we have grown since the founding of the Virginia Arts Festival in 1997, it’s amazing and gratifying and most of all, inspiring. We are inspired to bring you great performances because you tell us, again and again, how much you enjoy hearing great performers of classical music alongside jazz, rock, folk, world and more; what a thrill it is to share beautiful ballet with friends and family; and how compelling you find our theater and visual programming. Thanks to you, we have expanded and continue to grow.

And this season marks our most inspired yet! This season, you’ll find exciting performances throughout southeastern Virginia, from the December holidays through June. You’ll see great ballet from Dance Theatre of Harlem, dazzling tap from Dorrance Dance, and an extraordinary performance with headline-making contemporary ballet company BalletX.

In classical music, we’ll hear some of the titans of the genre: violinist Joshua Bell and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, pianist Olga Kern, the Borromeo String Quartet, and multiple gorgeous, fascinating curated performances by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Savor concerts by some of the greatest names in jazz, including bassist Christian McBride and vocalist Cécile McLoren Salvant. And choose from a roster of great singers including Tony-winning Broadway star (and hometown girl) Adrienne Warren and cabaret favorite Meow Meow. Be inspired by the bio-play about groundbreaking Supreme Court Justice, All Things Equal: The Life & Trials of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

In his solo program, GRAMMY ® Award-winning mandolinist, singer, composer, and MacArthur Foundation “genius” grant recipient Chris Thile brings his signature blend of virtuosity, humor, and heart to the stage. Feel the need for speed at a thrilling screening of Top Gun: Maverick with its score performed live by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra.

And you won’t want to miss the Virginia International Tattoo, celebrating America’s 250th birthday with a truly spectacular show.

You inspire us! And we can’t wait to share these great performances with you.
